"I bought my first copy of the Cabbagetown Cafe cookbook when it was initially published in 1986. What incredible recipes! After many years of use, I found my book being held together with tape. I went in search of a copy to replace my well used, well loved and severely tattered book. I was delighted to find that Amazon has vendors that could fulfill my need. Even though the book was used,, it is in much better shape then the one at replaces. I love this book. The potato leek soup alone is well worth the price."

- A friend first introduced me to this book. I borrowed her copy of the book and tried several recipes; I had never done much cooking before this book and everything I made turned out absolutely amazing. I was truly astonished! Why was I astonished? To start, this book has no glamorous photos of the final product, it was printed in 86 and looks dated but the recipes and ideas are classic, easy to make, and receive rave reviews. Since I have purchased this book, I have become a vegetarian/vegan whole food cooking addict and I have Julie Jordan to thank. I've purchased all three of her books (all awesome). Her recipes are nutritional and healthy without tasting like they are health food. She doesn't use white surgar, white flour ONLY whole foods. She does, however, use dairy and eggs in this book, which I tend to cut in half or sub non dairy ingredients and everything still turns out wonderful. In the past year, I've built quite a collection of books but I still find myself going to Cabbagetown for inspiration.
The book has a wonderful layout Julie opens the book with her background info, tips and tricks (really helpful); what follows are sections devoted to Appetizers, Breads (leavened and unleavened with exceptional instruction if you are a beginner), Salads (all kinds- green and grains!), Dressings (entire chapter on homemade dressings!), Soups (hot and cold), Pasta and Pizza (including whole grain pizza crust instruction), a Misc. Section (quiche, stir frys, homemade tofu burgers, etc), Mexican entrees, Indian entrees, Sunday brunch and an absolutely fabulous Dessert chapter. If only had this one cookbook for the rest of my life, I would be satisfied! I strongly recommend this cookbook. - Took forever to receive this gem of a cookbook but well worth the wait.
- This cookbook simply has the best recipes in it. Each meal is easy to prepare and delicious. I like it much better than The Vegetarian Epicure series and even better than Moosewood. The cookbook is lesser-known but well-worth the search.
- This is a replacement copy for a cookbook I received as a wedding present over 20 years ago! We use it all the time

- Good story to go along with the unique and interesting recipes. Lots of pictures and history. Can't wait to try some of these dishes.
