"For 10 years my brother and I used this useful book in our summer adventures that took us from Yellow Creek to the Owens River, and it led us to many small charming and productive creeks. It became dog-eared and coffee-stained, but I referred back to it time and again because I knew that no matter where I was in the Sierra, it would remind me of streams I just had to try. It had enough detail to get you to often-overlooked water, but also pointed out world-class opportunities like Lake Almanor's famous Hex hatch. Although the maps were very simplistic, they were adequate to point you in the right direction. Every time I take the dirt roads to Yellow Creek, I'm grateful for Fly Fishing the Sierra Nevada...you could easily take a wrong turn on those backcountry logging roads and end up who knows where, and the book's directions were to the point and concise....we never got lost.

That book is now AWOL--did I loan it to a buddy? Did I forget it in a motel room? Is it hiding out with the socks that have likewise gone missing? I've searched EVERYWHERE, and given up...and ordered Sunderland's updated edition as a replacement. If you want an easy-to-pack road guide for trout water in the Sierra, this is a must-have."

  • While most fly fishing location books hit the what, where and how basics this book gives you information that will prove invaluable. It runs down river information section by section of a fly fishing water and doesn't just generalize the whole body of water. Gave me some great idea on next year's fly outings.
  • If you fish the Sierra you will enjoy the fact that this book is specific to that area alone and covers each section of the sierra, both West and East, in detail. Each section is accompanied by a general map for reference. I enjoyed the book and know I will use it for a ready reference, in the future. I have not seen the updated version but would hope that the area maps are more detailed.

  • Purchased the version since the paperback is out of print. Wish I could return the version. There should be a disclaimer when there are things missing. They managed to include pictures (a few). Very disappointed.
  • For my son-in-law he found it very useful
  • Informative and fun to read. I grew up fishing the Plumas County area and I learned a few new spots that I have overlooked for years.
  • Great book!! Great seller! Thank you!!!
